A thirteen year old snooker sensation has faced “The Whirlwind” at a snooker club in Cwmbran – and came out on top in one of his games.

Lewis Sinclair played “The People’s Champion” Jimmy White in a unique opportunity last Tuesday [October 7].

The Croesyceiliog School pupil lost his first game to the former UK champ but managed to beat him in the second frame during a memorable exhibition evening at Redz Snooker Club in Oldbury Road.

Club owner Will Edwards indicated Jimmy may have encouraged players by letting them score points. The 31-year-old said: “It was a very successful evening. “Jimmy is a well known legend of the game. It was fantastic. He was very good with Lewis. He’s a friendly guy. He offered him words of support and wisdom.”

Lewis, of St Andrews Close, Cwmbran – who has since gone away to enjoy a holiday – plays about five times a week and has won a place in the under 14 Welsh squad. His grandmother Janet Jenkins, 62, told us: “Lewis said it was the best thing he has ever done. “He’s played in tournaments all over Wales. He said it was a brilliant experience.”

His pastoral support officer at Croesyceiliog School, Jenny Price, 34, added: “This was a fantastic opportunity for him and demonstrates how well he’s doing.”
